The Future Network Services (FNS) consortium led by TNO submitted a national 6G program proposal to the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy on 3 February 2023, after which the Ministry submitted the proposal to the National Growth Fund (NGF) on behalf of the consortium. With this ambitious program, we want to acquire a top position in the Netherlands in the development of 6G, with a focus on reliability, sustainability, and digital autonomy.
Last Friday, the cabinet made a conditional positive decision on our FNS proposal, which means that our application has been approved subject to conditions. We are very proud that our project has received a positive assessment from the NGF advisory committee, and that the cabinet has adopted this advice. As can be read in the committee's advisory report, FNS is one of the 18 winners of a total of 47 submitted proposals.
What we really appreciate is that the committee has positively assessed our proposal as a whole, including all activities and links between the program lines. The FNS proposal can potentially count on an NGF subsidy of € 61 million for a first phase in order to stimulate structural and sustainable economic growth in the Netherlands. With a positive evaluation of the results of this first phase and an approved proposal for the second phase, the reservation of € 142 million for this second phase can become available.
